It’s That Time of Year Again: National Children’s Dental Health Month!

Maintaining a healthy life-long smile starts from an early age. Teaching your children the importance of good oral hygiene will help keep their smile bright as they mature. However, knowing where and when to start talking to your children about their oral health, when to begin taking them to the dentist, and building up those enduring dental routines can prove challenging for parents. This February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, making now a great time to start!

Focusing On Children’s Oral Health Every February

Beginning as National Children’s Health Day on February 8th, 1949, the day of national attention has sprawled to an entire month focused on creating good dental health habits in children. Since the humble beginnings, the American Dental Association has gone to great lengths to ensure that the month is filled with essential tips, tricks, recommendations, and learning materials for parents and children alike. Providing our children with everything they need to know about the importance of maintaining good dental health habits can help them go through life and deal with the toothaches that may come from a better-informed perspective.

The Theme for 2021

Every year, National Children’s Dental Health Month has an overarching theme that guides parents, children, and dentists. In a year that figures to continue to be impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s theme revolves around the importance of water to our ongoing dental health. The ADA offers learning material to help dental offices, parents, and teachers to tell their young charges about water’s pivotal role as part of their ongoing dental health.

Building Good Dental Hygiene Habits From a Young Age

National Children’s Dental Health Month’s goal remains to teach our children about the importance of good dental health habits. Finding engaging ways to emphasize their dental hygiene habits can prove challenging. However, the ADA’s National Children’s Dental Health Month provides the necessary information presented in a manner designed for children of all ages to engage, absorb, and ultimately practice good dental health care habits for the rest of their life.
